“I love poetry. Poetry can touch my soul, and I often feel that some poets are extraordinary painters. I try to create paintings that can be seen through the heart, just like poetry.”

Haijie’s practice is driven by the body, intuition, and emotion rather than by knowledge, concepts, or ideology. She believes that in the face of sensation and personal mystery, common sense and logic fail.

Her work reveals the solitude and melancholy of a rapidly changing world, attending to human emotion and existence. Haijie carries her heart, seeing life: empty urban scenes, insignificant individuals, unremarkable objects… everything becomes more than the familiar, transfigured into affect.
